Substitutions and tips for Matcha Granola
- Customize your crunch: Feel free to use your favorite nuts and seeds—cashews, sesame seeds, or sunflower seeds work beautifully. Just be sure to chop them coarsely for even baking and texture.
- Dried fruit options: You can use dried cranberries, swap them out, or combine them with other dried fruits. Raisins are a classic choice, while dried cherries and chopped dried apricots add a lovely burst of sweetness and chewiness that complement the crunch of the granola.
- Sweetener swap: Prefer to use just one sweetener? No problem. If you’re using only honey, use 4 tablespoons (instead of 2 tablespoons honey + 2 tablespoons maple syrup). The same goes for using only maple syrup—use 4 tablespoons total. Both are natural sweeteners with antioxidant benefits and add a delicious depth of flavor that pairs beautifully with matcha.
- Matcha to taste: Matcha powder can vary in strength. Start with a couple of teaspoon and adjust to your taste. Too much can make the granola bitter, so it’s best to add gradually.
- Storage tip: Store your granola in an airtight container at room temperature. It stays fresh and crisp for 2 weeks—perfect for make-ahead breakfasts or snacking on the go.
